"Whatever environment is near the centre of the screen will control the environmental audio you hear."
Howdy. I've been beavering away working on the basic internals of the game, making the choices about right. I think I'm nearly there - it feels much more predictable and sensible now, although the barbarians inevitably eat me for breakfast every time.
But the real news is that I've finally added the first bits of sound to the game! At the moment, my plan is for the soundscape to be fairly minimal - so whatever environment is near the centre of the screen will control the environmental audio you hear (ocean, mountain winds, city noises, etc). I've got that working, plus it goes quiet if you zoom out or move out over unexplored space. Nice and minimal but quite effective, I hope.
Just need to add some event sounds (for things like You invented stuff! or Barbarians just trashed Tokyo!) and UI sounds and the first pass will be done!
